Savills flags up Manchester as fast-growing tech city to watch

Manchester has so much going for it that the city always seems to be hitting the headlines for one reason or another. Most recently, it is Manchester’s technological prowess that has been in the spotlight, with Savills flagging the city up as a rising global tech contender. 

Labelling Manchester as one of the ‘fastest growing cities to watch,’ Savills has highlighted its thriving community of digital and tech businesses. Over 10,000 such firms work in the city, from global behemoths such as Microsoft, Google, Cisco and IBM to innovative, fast-paced start-ups with global success in their sights. 

Part of the city’s success in this area is down to its nurturing of young talent. Manchester is home to three internationally ranked universities, meaning it can deliver creative partnerships between academics and businesses, as well as developing the next generation of tech entrepreneurs.

“Manchester has a thriving tech scene and an exciting knowledge economy, as well as a host of other attractions. Its property market regularly ranks among the highest performing in the UK for both price growth and rental yields. It plans to reach net-zero carbon by 2038 – some 12 years before the rest of the UK. It is one of the foremost cities in the country for foreign direct investment. Savills has hit the nail on the head by referring to Manchester as a global contender.”

Manchester is also a global hit on the sporting scene, thanks to the city’s two Premier League football teams, which have made its name familiar to people across the globe. 

Those who have heard of Manchester and would like to be a part of its future economic success would do well to look closely at Salford Quays. The area is home to the 200-acre MediaCityUK complex, which is a melting pot of media, creative and tech businesses, along with the University of Salford, artisan eateries, bars, shops and homes.

Wayne has been in the property industry for over 17 years. He started out selling residential properties in the northern suburbs of Sandton, South Africa, for one of the bigger real estate brands, before moving to a boutique, Johannesburg-based property developer. He worked at a senior level, specialising in residential developments on the north coast of KZN and various other areas of Northern Johannesburg.

Wayne moved to selling luxury, free standing homes and apartments in Sandton, Johannesburg in 2006, having joined the Country’s leading real estate brand and within six months was leading the team. In 2008, he began to focus exclusively on the luxury apartments in central Sandton, priced from approximately R2 million to R60 million. Over the years, he has also added commercial property sales and rentals to his repertoire, as well as building his own investment property portfolio between 2011 and 2018.

By 2018, realising where the South African property market was headed, he sold out of his investment property portfolio to de-risk and went looking for a real estate company to buy into. South Africa’s property market was extremely volatile at that time, so Wayne took the initiative and moved to London to work in property in the UK.

From then on Daniel launched his career in sales where he worked his way to to a high performing sales person at a creative media company. Part of Daniels success in accumulating clients over the last 10 years is put down to his diligence in customer experience.

Daniel has a keen interest in golf and also in keeping himself fit which is essential as he and his fiancé have 4 year old twins, Jacob and Sofia who keep them both on their toes.
